Pre Closing Homeowner's Insurance Switch?

Asked by rn2015BSN, Schenectady County, NY Wed May 29, 2013

We were required to prepurchase one year of homeowner's insurance before closing and did so. We have three weeks to closing. The policy is not in effect yet, and we got a better quote. The lender already has the current insurance binder. Can we switch before closing with no problems?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just ask your lender.

Hi Meghan,

You should be able to switch without any problems. This really is a question for your attorney, but with 3 weeks to closing, you can probably switch without issue. Just contact your closing attorney to be sure!

Good luck!
