Planning to buy home in Castle Hills north, but only worry is Independence Elementary School is not exemplary.
School is only one year old and heard 70% of student parents are in low income.
What are the chances/can forcast wheter Independence Elementary School will become exemplary?

Dear Castle Hills Home Buyer,
You are the only one can make decision for you and your family so make sure that you did your homework well, may be search little bit more on the school then make your move wisely. Unfortunately nobody can tell you the future.
Good luck,

Sincerely,

The district itself is very good and is rated Recognized.

Unfortunately nobody has a crystal ball. The school rated academically acceptable. I can totally understand and don't understand how an elementary school cannot achieve an exemplary status or at least a recognized one.

If you still like Castle Hills, you may want to look at a pre-owned home zoned to the Castle Hills elementary which is rated exemplary.

Much of whether a school rates Recognized or Exemplary, or even Acceptable, depends on parents, not just teachers. Parents who work with their kids are more likely to wind up their schools being rated well because of the home environment and focus on education.

Kids can be taught by the best teachers in the world and still do poorly if homelife doesn't support a desire for education and respect for school.

So, if a year out, the school doesn't yet have the highest rating, I'd say give it some time -- it may just happen. Also, regardless of which school a child goes to, show interest in their classwork and homework, and they will succeed, even if the school is never more than Acceptable.

I always say take these ratings into account with the overall picture. Exemplary schools in my mind are typically pretty good, but it is not the end all be all of if it is a good school or not. For example...exemplary ratings don't tell if a school is diverse or not...or income levels or not....or amount of drugs in the school...or the social climate.....or heaven forbid in Texas how good the football team is. The ratings can be manipulated as many administrators will indicate. For example you may think it is a good idea to mainstream children with disabilities....if you do your test scores and ratings might go down. Some schools mainstream...some don't. One thing I have heard is that it is tough to get top rankings if there are lots of apartments with children in the area. This is due to frequent movement of people who live in apts around here. The teachers say they can work with nearly any child, but once they get them on the right track they move. My suggestion is go visit the school...talk to the teachers...talk to the admins....talk to other parents. Go to a PTA meeting....see if you think you will fit in with the goals and ideas of not only the school, but the other parents as well.
If you are thinking about buying new, we suggest you always use a Realtor. Remember the building reps are always nice and friendly, but they are working against you and not in your corner. Building is tricky and you need someone in your corner looking out for your interests.
