This is NOT a joke question, although I think it's the right day to post it.
I am searching for a home and on various message boards I belong to the question has arisen as to whether or not the seller and/or agent must specify if a house has a reputation of being "haunted". This is not a trick question as I grew up in a house with strange activity, so I know there is the distinct possibility this subject may arise.
Some of us who are house hunting were wondering if there are any rules about mentioning possible activity in a house. Sounds strange, but nonetheless there are some of us who would want to know if this is something that must be disclosed or is left to the discretion of the seller. This information might make some buyers shy, while on the other hand, may actually prove a positive point to others!
Thanks in advance and Happy Halloween!
Thank you all for your answers. As stated, this question has come up on a number of boards, including some people's blogs. Very interesting; I am surprised that this is something that must be disclosed, given its controversial nature.
It wouldn't deter me, at least depending on what kind of activity is reported. But then I'm kind of used to it anyway! :)
"Paranormal" - I like that - and yes, I agree with all the that commented before - in NJ, anything relative to the house itself should be disclosed. However, if the house next door is haunted, you may never know ---- and that is a spooky thought.
Happy Halloween!

I agree with Nicola;NJ is a full disclosure atate but the right question must be asked of the agent/seller for an answer.
Good Luck!
