Pay property taxes in Nassau County and not get hit with NYincome tax or pay taxes again & buy in Brooklyn?

Asked by Jackie, East Rockaway, NY Wed Sep 10, 2008

Looking to buy (first time home buyer) and we are a couple without children. We would like a starter home in the 300-400k range and are weighing our options for location. Raised in Brooklyn and now renting in Nassau County... which is best? Brooklyn's low property tax but start paying NYCincome tax or likewise, buy in Nassau pay big taxes but no income tax hit...

Although property taxes are lower in Brooklyn , Long Island offers much more.
The qaulity of life along with a better educational system makes a big difference. Long Island also gives offers much more property for the price range that you are lookinf for.
In Brooklyn you will not be able to get much for 300-400k .
I am shopping for a home as we speak in Suffolk County , and after seeing the homes in Long Island I can not see myself buying in Brooklyn.
