Need advice about buying a home. 1st time home buyers!

My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a house. His credit score is around 620, mine I'm not sure about. Combined we make around 25,000 a year not including his tips. We are tired of wasting money renting, and we are looking to buy a house that we can afford, but one that is in a decent neighborhood. I was wondering if we qualified for the first time home buyers credit, and if we do how do we go about getting it? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

You need to do a couple of things right away:

Talk with a lender about your qualifications. You need to find out IF you are qualified with your income, debt, and credit history.
Talk with a Realtor about the best values in your price range.

In some areas there are programs for first time buyers. I do not work in Texas, but try googling your preferred town/county/state and see if there are any special home buyer programs.

Good luck

Congratulations on wanting to become homeowners!

This is a great time to do so with rates being low and the tax credit opportunity. To qualify for the tax credit, you must not have owned a home in the past 3 years and you must make your purchase prior to December 1, 2009. For other other FAQs on the Tax Credit, please visit my website http://www.MarciaLevine.com. There is a link on my homepage. You can also receive a free copy of "Your First Home" if you're interested.

Most importantly, you need to find a lender and find out what you can afford and what program is right for you. They can also give you information about the tax credit. Talk to a couple different lenders and see which one you like the best and can give you the best rate.

Best of luck to you during this exciting time!

What area are you and your boyfriend looking to purchase. There is a great program for the City of San Antonio (HIP) if you wish to purchase in the city. Please contact me for further information.
