I am a displaced homemaker with 3 minor children from an abusive home. I was not allowed to work while marred for 23 years. For the past 3 years my 3 children and I have been living with my parents. I have been working 2 jobs and have just been approved for $75,000 to buy a home. He got the house, car, furniture and gave me a quit claim deed. Can I get any kind of tax credits or any thing as 1st time buyer or displace homemaker?

It depends. I suggest you talk both with your loan officer and a tax professional familiar with the home buyers tax credit.
Good luck!

Carole,

Very sorry to hear about your situation. Sad story, and I wish the best for you and your children.

Congrats on your ability to purchase a home!!! Good for you!

The answer to your question lies in the details of the quit claim deed. Did you just quit claim the house back to him? If so, when? You can not have owned a home in the preceding 3 years, which it sounds like you have.

Carole,

The question is more one of your current marital status..if you're divorced, you should be golden and can claim the tax credit. If still married, it's a bit more difficult to answer.

Rule is you or your spouse can't have owned a home within the last 3 years..all other criteria you seem to fit.

good morning carole....the tax credit is for first time homebuyers that is defined as not owning a home within the past three years.......owning a home is also defined as having an interest in a home for the same time period.....if he got the home, and gave you a quit claim deed...i am not sure i understand....is the qcd he gave you deeding from the two of you to him?...in which case you both must have signed it......if so, when was it dated?.....was it notarized?...if so, it doesn't have to be recorded to be valid, but...with a bit more info, perhaps i can better answer your question........best regards....bob mcclure- success mortgage partners- plymouth, michigan.....
