Hi Tif -

There are tons of great deals in the Twin Cities! Some of my favorites close by are Shoreview, Mounds View, Roseville, North Oaks, Blaine, Falcon Heights and Lauderdale. It really just depends on your price point and what you are looking for on a feature level. Right now is a great time to move to MN. I just sold a Condo to a professor that just moved here to teach at the U of M. I am also a alumni of the U of M and know the area very well. I would love to help you assist your family in your move to the Twin Cities. Give me a call - I am sure I can help!

Lauderdale is a great community (just minutes from St Paul & MPLS campus. A lot of prof. to students live in this area, and the schools are great.

Hi Tif - You have some great feedback from others here. I recently helped a client buy in the St. Anthony school district. the Mahtomedi district and Eagan district are also very popular. The websitehttp:// www.GreatSchools.com has rankings of schools from test scores to parent comments. You may want to check this out. Also, you may want to consider working with an agent who is a Certified Relocation Specialist as they have access to customized reports and additional info to help buyers who are just moving to the Twin Cities. All my best to you! - Shawna Gibson

Tif, if you're not familiar with the Twin Cities you might want to know that a 20 minute drive really limits you to within the 494-694 loop....with a few exceptions to the north and minus a few areas to the west. What does that mean? That means you're missing out on some outer ring suburbs...like Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Apple Valley, Woodbury...etc...If you're willing to push the drive out to a 30 minute drive you'll include a ton more homes that have great school systems and will most likely offer more home for your buck.

I suppose the same can be said for your neck of the woods in Pittsburgh. It kind of depends on how far you want to drive...and how important other factors are, like age of homes, age of communities, style of homes, school districts...

Congratulations on the new job...and good luck with the move

Tif,
Welcome to Minnesota. The public schools are great so you should be able to find some good choices. I'd add Maple Grove and Roseville to the list. Maple Grove will push the drive time to 30 minutes but the area has a lot to offer.

I might recommend the New Brighton/Shoreview area.....great schools, great sports, and yet within the 20 min. commute!

Thanks, Todd Norsted

Hi Tif,
There are many good areas near the U of M with excellent public school systems. St. Anthony is probably the closest, just a few miles Northeast of campus. Edina is about a 10-15 minute drive and they also have a good athletic program. A good site for checking out school ratings is:

http://www.greatschools.net

To get detailed information about any communities around Minneapolis, check out:

Let us know if you need any more information, we'd be happy to help.
