and of course he will need a job. We also have two sons (10 and 6) and need good schools. Any ideas on the job market for a union cabinet maker, and area schools.
Hi Danielle,
I'm an Oregon City resident, originally from New Jersey too! Highland Park, to be exact. My son graduated from the public schools here and is now a sophomore in college in Boston. I love Oregon! I know of several cabinet shops nearby, though I'm not sure they're union. In general, new construction has slowed down here but there's lots of remodelling going on. I've been a Realtor here for 16 years. I'd be delighted to help you with the home-buying part of the moving process. Contact me!

Danielle,
Phil had a great recommendation to contact your hometown union local for information on a Portland affiliate. Otherwise, here is a link to Oregon AFL/CIO where you might be able to send an inquiry:

The website Margaret provided is a good website from the State of Oregon. Another website is http://www.greatschools.com.
Welcome to Oregon.

Perhaps you can contact your union rep in New Jersey and ask for contact info for their counterpart in the Portland metro area. I Googled it but did not find anything.
You'll love Oregon! the weather is terrific and the people are very friendly. I moved here from working in Mass., Conn., and NY state.

Oregon Department of Education provides "report cards" for all schools and school districts. It is one objective measurement that you can use when comparing schools. Attached is the link. We are native Oregonians and think it's one of the best places in the US to live!
Danielle,
I can't speak for jobs, especially union, but Oregon City has good schools. My grandchildren had gone from first grade to HS grad at Oregon City and we were very happy with the system.
What typeof home are you thinking of looking for? Send me some information and I'll e-mail you listings as they come on the market.
