If you are still unmarried, you could buy a home this year and get the credit for yourself. That's your only shot.

I am in agreement with Jane on the refinance question, John, but must add that the $8K credit may actually be applied against 2008 income, as per the link below. Good Luck with the nuptials!

FIRST ANSWER

The tax credit of $8,000 is for only for the home purchase for year 2009 and it does have the income limit. It doesn't apply for refinancing the loan amount. Sorry...
