Since real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods, consider a visit to the school--ask for a tour of the facility, speak to the superintendent, principal, teachers, etc., and ask all your questions--then make a determination, will your comfort level be reached.

I can see that you have already received answers describing Plainedge as an excellent school district. Newsday.com is an excellent source of information about school districts on Long Island. From personal experience, my children attended Plainedge and all went on to college. Personally, I can attest to the excellence of Plainedge.

Dear Lillymac,
I can tell you that Plainedge has invested quite a lot of money in their schools recently and built a beautiful brand new Middle School on Stewart Ave. in Bethpage.

In addition, I agree with Arlynn regarding the site search: http://www.GreatSchools.net. Her suggestion will allow you to plug in local school districts, check each one off, then press the "compare" button. The site does all the work.

And, finally, I thought you might be interested to see that Newsweek named Plainedge H.S. as one of America's best! I copied and pasted an excerpt below.

Good luck with your search, and, as always, feel free to contact me with any questions or real estate help you may need! Keep me posted on your progress!

Plainedge HS One of Newsweek’s Best
Plainedge High School is among the schools listed in Newsweek magazine’s annual coverage of “America’s Best High Schools.” Newsweek makes its determination by looking at an index based on the number of AP exams taken, divided by the number of the graduating seniors. Any public high school that has an index of 1 or greater is included in the feature. Once again this year, Plainedge High School made the list—with an index of 1.3, Plainedge High ranks 1,249 out of approximately 67,000 public high schools in the United States. Only about 1,600 schools made Newsweek’s list. Congratulations to all of the faculty and staff and especially to the students who helped us achieve this wonderful distinction. Newsweek’s Internet coverage of America’s Best High Schools is available at http://www.newsweek.com/feature/2010/americas-best-high-scho…

Long Island schools are among the best in the nation. One of the most comprehensive sites I have found for checking individual districts is http://www.GreatSchools.net. This site will provide you with test scores, teacher/student ratios, extra curricular activities, advanced placement opportunities, demographics, economics, etc. for each school district that you check. I think you will find the information that you are looking for on that site.

If I can be of any other help, please contact me.

Regards,
Arlynn

Please go to my website http://www.buyorsell.org and click the school report link. This link will provide a school district report card that you can compare to the State averages. As a Realtor, I'm not permitted to give a personal opinion on a particular district. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

By law, Realtors are not allowed to comment on schools or neighborhoods; we are only allowed to be the source of the source.

There are many websites that rate schools; o even have a link on my website http://www.gailgladstone.com.
