My credit score is 578 and I was wondering if it is possible to get a home loan?

Hi Stephanie,

With a low credit score you will pay a lot more money for a mortgage than you would if you had a better credit rating. You may need credit repair or you may need a credit score boost. If you want more details on how to improve your credit rating, please see my blog. Or you can catch me in the June issue of INC Magazine. Good luck!

in this market you need a 620 for an FHA with3.5% down and a 720 for all other financing. you are not that far off. I suggest you sit down with a reputable local lender to discuss how to get your credit up to where it needs to be. If you have a good income 7 money for a deposit/down payment you may be able to get some owner financing or lease/purchase.contact a local agent to discuss this possibility.

Good luck!
