came upon a great new Construction in Elizabeth. Can anyone tell me anything about Elizabeth, NJ.? How long is the commute to Mid-town Manhattan? Are there other areas close to NYC with New Construction condos and affordable prices. We plan on getting married in a couple of years and a few years after that kids. Basically it will be a while before we really have to worry about kids and school. Is Elizabeth one of those towns going through gentrification like JC and Hoboken have gone through...what are your ideas? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Home buying is a very personal experience where one size certainly does not fit all. I'm intimately familiar with both Jersey City and Elizabeth and both are larger cities in NJ that have quite well-defined neighborhoods that offer different residential experiences for those living in them. My advice would be to contact local realtors who will take the time to really fit your lifestyle with the right neighborhood and then to walk around and experience life in those locales at different times of the day and week. Giving you a more specific answer than this via e-mail would actually be an injustice as you would not be getting the level of service you require to make this a successful and well-thought out move. Good luck!

Like any city, Elizabeth has it's good and not so good areas. It has it's share of crime, but not necessarily violent crimes. You can email or call me directly and I can give you some websites that may give you more information on that.

Not sure about Elizabeth, I don't think it's anywhere near Hoboken and Jersey City in regards to gentrification. My son lives in JC, he owns a condo and has lived there for about 3 years, and he really loves it. (off SIP Ave.) There are restaurants, shopping, and the best part is that the commute to NYC is great and fast, so he goes into the city to eat and to go out, and not just to work. And it's got a city feel, but its also kind-of homey.
hope this helps.

I agree with Joan-Elizabeth is still in a declining market, and isn't showing any signs of a turn-around like Hoboken and JC.

Elizabeth has a long way to go before it reaches the gentrification levels of Jersey City (especially Hamilton Park) and Hoboken. It's also a much longer commute than it is from Jersey City.
