Moving to the southeast

We live in Chicago area and are looking to relocate somewhere warmer in the southeastern U.S.. I have had 3 back surgeries since July of 07 and slipping on ice with the cold could be a bad combination.
This is what we are looking for a Ranch 3-4 bedroom, 3 bath, we like the jack and Jill bathrooms. Large Kitchen with Island {can have sink, stove or just used for preparing food}. Skylights throughout, or in one or two rooms would be nice but no skylight at all we can live with. Prefer a great room, no dinning room, eating area in part of the Large Kitchen

Hi Bobby

You will just love the Carolinas. I am a licensed realtor in both NC and SC - our office is located 1 miles north of the SC line.....I show and sell Real Estate in the Myrtle Beach area up to Wilmington, NC. There are areas that are very laid back, and some hustling areas also. Viewed a home on Saturday that has a Master Br and the guests rooms have the jack & jill bath. If interested, please contact me and I will send you more info on this home and other homes in the area. Also, do you want a development/subdivision.....lots of land or small lot - give me a little more info and I will be glad to send you listings. mcleary@century21carolina.com

Hello Bobby,

Since we've heard from those in the "upstate" of South Carolina, I'll chime in on the "LowCountry" part of South Carolina.

The areas of Savannah, GA, Hilton Head Island, Beaufort, and Charleston, SC have a lot of natural beauty as well as some seriously rich history. Other than being on the coast, the lifestyle seems to be a little slower and relaxed. You're within a nice distance to many other major cities:

(From Hilton Head Island)
Atlanta = 4 hours
Jacksonville = 2.5 hours
Savannah = 40 minutes
Charleston = 1.5 hours
Orlando = 5 hours
Charlotte = 4 hours

This area (along with NC) is known to be the area that most Baby Boomers have mentioned that they would like to retire. Also, we end up welcoming the "Tweeners". The Tweeners are those people who retired to Florida from the Northeast but are now looking to move half-way back up the coast. (Hence...."Be-tween" the Northeast and Florida)

You get a change of the seasons in the winter (59degree highs in the month of January) and you get great Springs and Falls. The summers aren't quite as hot as Florida, but you do have some humidity to deal with in Late July and August.

I'm not here to peddle my services, as I'm not a real estate agent. I just thought you might like to hear from someone who's lived in the Hilton Head, SC area for about 13 years.

Best of Luck and PLEASE....leave those Chicago winters up there! Don't bring that stuff with you. :-)

Hi Bobby,
I relocated to S Carolina's Upstate area in 1995 from NJ. "Somewhere warmer" doesn't even touch on the beautiful weather that awaits you here year round! As per your criteria for a home, we have numerous ranch homes which meet many of your needs, both resale and new as well as vinyl and all brick. However, as we all know, a purchaser's price point will determine "how many" homes he/she will have to select from.

Please visit my site to learn more about me. My Links section (top of page) contains information about what awaits you here in Greenville County.

I would welcome the opportunity to assist you in your relocation to the Upstate of SC.
