Middletown is the largest town in the county, and offers many communities within the town. Your commuting preferences may influence your location choice. If you prefer to be close to high speed bus service, look at Lincroft. If you want to be close to the train, you can look at the Navesink area (closest to Red Bank train station) or you can use the Middletown train station. If you are going to commute via ferry, you may want to be closer to the water, in which case, Chapel Hill, Belford, Port Monmouth or Locust may be your area of focus.

I've been here 30 years, Middletown is Safe PERIOD. Don't listen to anyone who says different. MONEY Magazine rated Middletown as 2rd safest place to live in the country for it's size compared to others of same size. Sections rank as this if you want to spend 3Mill+ look in navesink section, 600k to 1mill look in oak hill, lincroft, locust sections 400kto500k look in the North Middletown sec, 200k to 400k port monmouth or belford sections. all are safe but best value in my opinion will be the port monmouth section because you can pick up a house cheap it's safe and the new Port of Belford Project will start soon.

We've lived in the Middletown area for just over 2 years now and I work in Manhattan. We live in a small part of Middletown between Highway 35 and 36 called Port Monmouth. It's incredibly quiet, lots of diversity in the neighborhood. We've thoroughly enjoyed the area mostly because the access to NYC is so easy. We have a bus stop literally 100 ft. from our home, I'm about 5 minutes from the Ferry to Manhattan, and probably 10 minutes from the train station.

Commutes vary based on your mode of transportation. The bus is approximately 70 minutes from the city, the train is realistically between 70-90 and the boat is 45 minutes into Wall Street.

The home we purchased is in your price range. I've added a link below for you to take a look for comparison as we're exploring the idea of moving .

I also moved from Florida to New Jersey. We currently live in Dallas. Based on all I heard about New Jersey I was concerned about living there, but the schools and people were great! My wife also commuted to NYC via Fast Ferry and found it very easy. Our neighbors used the train and others the bus. We are renting our property now but would consider selling it. We lived 2 blocks from the Navesink River just across from downtown Red Bank. If you would like more information send me an email with your questions. chris@ccwalters.com

Middletown is great but very different in each section. You want to stay in the Oak Hill, Lincroft, Locust, Navesink or River Plaza sections. These parts make up the southern part of Middletown. If schools are a concern these areas are a must. Also depending on your price range, the northern sections are much more affordable but made up mostly of smaller bungalow type homes. Oak Hill is great, right near the Middletown train station and made up of nice 3-5 bdrm homes mostly ranches and colonials in the 500-900 range mostly on one acre or close to it. Locust is really nice and borders the Navesink River and really is an estate area with horse farms, river front estates and beautiful countryside with some affordable (600-900K) houses mixed in. Navesink is similar to Locust in feel but much smaller cute older homes (very close to the ferry to NYC), Lincroft is the most westerly and southern and close to the Parkway but further from the train and similar to Oak Hill in types of homes, very suburban. River Plaza is between Red Bank and Lincroft and made up mostly of smaller cape style homes but charming and a great location and very close to the Parkway and train.

Best of Luck if I can be of assistance, check out www. BillKilbride.com

Dear Mister,
You have several options in terms of commuting to NYC on a daily basis from Middletown. If you don't commute by car, NJ Transit can get your there by train, you can commute to NYC by bus because the bus station is nearby or pick up the bus along one of the commute routes that take you to the city and the ferry could be another alternative.

I would be happy to send you some listings of available homes in Middletown Twp. in your price range. You can email me or call me direct 732-684-1559. Don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of assistance. Best of Luck on your move to NJ.
