first steps in buying a house? We are clueless with the whole process.
Bill -
First and foremost get with an agent that you trust and that you can work with. Get preapproved after speaking with several lenders, shop and compare. Figure out how much you can reasonably afford and how much needs to be ratholed for emergencys. Make absolutely certain you understand what's involved in owning a home and that it's not likely to make you instantly rich. After you are ready, figure out where you want to be. Oh yeah....fire every yes man/woman you come across. Owning a home isn't for everyone.
As for Eagle Shores, values are all over the board; what are you looking at?

Buying a home is a very serious decision. Almost as serious as your other decision of getting married. It should not be entered lightly. Your first step is to seek counsel from a professional that you trust. Someone you know that will put your interests first and protect you from making a mistake. The only way to do that is to sit down and meet with a professional and qualified realtor. Don't fall into the mistake of using someone out of obligation like a friend or relative. Find the best realtor who can represent you in the single most largest financial decision you will probably make. Then the next step would be to sit down with a lender and let them determine how much house you can afford and then only look at homes that fall within your budget. I can recommend a great lender for that if you are interested:
