a 2 year old and hope to have more kids soon. I'm nervouse about the move and want to make sure we move to an area that will be good for our family. I've heard good things about Alpharetta and Marietta and wonder if anyone could shed some light on the different areas of Alpharetta (even Marietta if you know the area) so that we can better tailor our search. I want to make sure we buy in the right part of town for us. TIA!

Alpharetta, Roswell, Sandy Springs & Dunwoody are all great communities and convenient to Sandy Springs and have excellent schools. Much of Marietta also is great, but some areas of Marietta are not convenient to Sandy Springs, especially since the construction is ongoing at Johnsons Ferry Road.

There are many homes available in all these areas of different ages, styles and prices.

Alpharetta & Roswell have a historic downtown with small shops and restaurants. While both have many convenient strip malls, Roswell has more of a small town feel. Alpharetta has North Point mall and surrounding areas of mall has quite a few office buildings. Sandy Springs & Dunwoody are a little more congested, but also have some really nice homes, communities and schools.

North Fulton is one of the areas of Metro Atlanta that is considered upscale. With many golf courses & country clubs.

However there are homes in North Fulton that sell for the low $200,000 up to several million. The properties available are diverse.

GA 400 is the main highway from Sandy Springs going north and south.

I live in Roswell, in Martins Landing. Even thou it was built about 40 years ago, I love Martins Landing because the neighborhood design was very forward thinking. Easy access to GA 400. Short commute to Sandy Springs. Bike paths/trails, Walking trails, sidewalks, lake, tennis courts, pools (no golf course, but plenty nearby). Next to Chatahoochee National Forest (river), which has trout fishing and canoeing.

Hi there Jdjd, from a realtor standpoint this is out of my area of expertise - however, I have a very good friend that made this move - from Warren, NJ (Somerset County) to the Atlanta area and they did settle on Alpharetta. They moved when their twins were in 4th grade and now they are freshman in High School, so they've had experience in the community and the schools. Super nice people and I'd bet they'd be more than happy to chat with you if you like.

Just send me a quick email and I can connect you. They may also have suggestions on real estate agents they used. I can then assist you with that connection as well.

Best,

Hi Tia,

Alpharetta is a great area and close to Sandy Springs. You can't go wrong there. Schools are tops also. But, the only thing is Fulton County taxes are very high. If you can get Alpharetta but Cherokee or Forsyth County (neighboring counties), your taxes will be more reasonable. Alpharetta offers an upscale feel with homes ranging from moderate pricing to mcmansions, golf course developments and equestrian estates. It is a good family environment.

East Cobb and Marietta is also nice, but older and with more congestion/traffic. There is not as much space available here as it's been built out as much as possible. Woodstock would be a good area to check into with close proximity to Sandy Springs. But, I'd check into the Alpharetta area first. Your husband's commute won't be too bad from either location.

Let me know if I can help and when you are planning to be in the area. Also if your husband is on a relocation program with his work.

If you would like for me to send over properties to review, give me an idea of what you are looking for, type of home, price point, etc. and I'll send you some things to click through.

Take care,
