Lot size question

Asked by Neupane, Jersey City, NJ Thu Aug 4, 2011

When i see in ad, lot size is 0.3 acres. what does that mean?
1. does that mean that much land left AFTER the house is built?
2. Or 0.3 lot was where the house was built?

If # 2 is the right answer then looking at 0.3 acres doesnt really tell me how much land area i will have correct? depends upon how big the foot print of house it? sorry for beginner question

guys i think my question wasnt clear. i am trying to understand when i see in AD (and 0.3 acres was just an example). when i see in ad 0.3 acres lot, does that mean house was build on 0.3 acres and not the total backyard or front yard space. correct?

A full acre is 43,570 square feet. So, 0.3 acres is 13,071 sq feet. Not quite a 1/3 acre lot. You would need to get a copy of the plot from the local municipality to see what the building guidelines are and building envelope and set backs if that has been established. If it's raw land this info may not be available.

Different town require different side, front and back distances. Lot size is total lot size.
