Any suggestions or other areas to reseach would help. I am a city dweller, not interested in any remote rural areas. Any assistance is appreciated. (I am from New England and thinking of relocating to the Greater Myrtle Beach area. Conway looks promising from what I am reading.)

Hi Scott,
I moved to Conway from NJ outside Manhattan. I'm a "city" person and Conway is not the city. There is a small downtown area with shops and restaurants but if you are looking for a city feel at all it wouldn't be in Conway. However it is a nice town and I've sold a lot of houses here, people love it. It's also a very big town with plenty of houses near grocery stores and anything else you might need.

Carolina Forest is centrally located to just about everything and from what it sounds like I think you would like that area better. It's close to major hwys, the airport, tons of shopping and attractions and the beach is not far at all. You might also want to consider Surfside or North Myrtle Beach. Those areas have a lot going on and not far from the action, so to speak. Surfside is in the South Strand and NMB is obviously north.

I read the blog comment you posted and it's true, the more you can get to know about the area the better off you will be in making your decision. If you can visit a few times, I would suggest that before buying. If renting is an option and you don't mind moving twice then that might be the way to go while you look around.

Either way good luck and if you need some help, let me know! Mary Ann

A recent blog I found said the following:

"...Regarding the Carolina Forest area, in general, there are more and more homes going up in the area as more and more folks move into our 'slice of heaven'. Traffic counts will increase. Schools will fill up. New stores will open. The tax base will expand. The list goes on and on.. however, without this growth, we will not be able to continue to lure a myriad of folks like we have continued to do for the last 10 years.

Golf and the beach only go so far. There MUST be more attractions for ALL AGES, in order for the area to flourish. I see HRP as both good and bad, but, then again, I miss what Myrtle Beach was 15 years ago, however, I appreciate what it has become today. Anyone can spin the growth trend into a huge positive or a huge negative but it's the few that see both the good and bad that truly get the big picture.

Regarding driving around the beach...501 is a PAIN, but look at what the additions of HWYs 22 & 31 have done to ease *some* of that congestion. Locals know it.. tourists do not, which is one reason traffic does get backed up so badly. Rubberneckers are, by and large, the WORST offenders at backing traffic up, but that's another rant!

My advice to almost ANYONE moving here looking to buy a home.. move down but RENT somewhere first, for at least 6 months. While renting, LOOK AROUND at your options. The more you educate YOURSELF, the better suited you will be when it's time to make that purchase.

No matter what.. don't let ANY agent tell you that one area is THE BEST... only YOU will be able to make that determination for yourself.."

Perhaps I will follow this advice....Thanks again for all your help...Scott

FIRST ANSWER

Hi Scott- as I stated in my other answer, there are plenty of options for real estate in and around the Conway area. However, if you are looking for the city feel, you won't really find that in Conway. If anything, the Myrtle Beach/Carolina Forest area is going to give you more of that type of feel. Unless youa re in the downtown area of Conway, you can easily have to drive 15-20 min to go to the post office/grocery store, etc... Feel free to contact me for more information.
