tWe are looking for that diamond in the rough. Any advice?
Hi Carol:
Do you have any specific parameters for the home? I would love to discuss this further with you either via an e-mail platform or by phone. My contact info is on my website below.

Yes. Definitely. All you have to do is look around or go to Sunday Open house. Fixer upper houses in Burlingame go very fast though. And it takes time to deal with the City to get all the permits you need for remodeling. Don't get your budget too tight, then you won't run out of money before the fixer upper is fixed! The most money saving way is to pick the livable one and you can live in there when you do the building permit or architectural plan ( it may take up to 1 year)! I know it will be a pain when you live in a remodeling house. However, what you save is what you earn too.
Yes, fixers in Burlingame definitely exist, and I would say many of the homes available now could benefit from quite a bit of work. Do you have a sense for what price point you'd like to be around? Are you open to anywhere in Burlingame, or would you prefer the hills, or closer to the high school or The Ave? Are you looking for a project to be creative and really shape as your own, or a home that needs more minor work and you can move in and work on as you wish? I think you have a lot of excellent choices.
As Ed said, Oak Grove is a good one. There is one on Crossway for just a little more and it doesn't need work. Don't pay too much for a fixer when you can get something for the same amount that's already done. I've done some fixers and think people often pay more than they should not knowing the true costs and time involved. See some photos here... http://www.maui4rent.com/remodel.html If you need more info don't hesitate to ask.

Hello Carol. I'll say that much of this depends on what you're budgeting, whether you're looking at something like a 2/1 to expand upon, or something that's a total knock-down. From a dollar perspective comparison, a fixer in the San Mateo/border of Burlingame area will be less expensive than one directly in the city of Burlingame. But off the top of my head, here's some to think of:
- 1280 Oak Grove for $750K
- 1604 Devereaux for $999K
- 819 Walnut for $1.4M
Burlingame is a nice neighborhood. I remember when it was a sleep little town with a sleep main street. Now, its reminds me of a mini rodeo drive. Im sure you will find a Fixer, I doubt you will get a FIXER Price.
Obviously, you know the area and know why this is the case.
