There are a couple of ways to search for homes in the area. One is Trulia which is popular. Another would be to have an agent such as myself or any other set you up with an automated MLS search based on your criteria and last my preferred option for clients is to set up a search for you with the Home Buyers Scouting Report that allows you to change criteria and run map based searches and also save the home you are interested in. I'd be happy to help with either of the options that require agent assistance.

As far as the rent to own goes you may want to look at a lease w/option to buy depending on your financial situation; many builders and home owners are looking to get creative to get their homes sold are entertaining these options. You would want to make sure that the contracts are on the up and up. I would be cautious of some of the rent to own companies.
