Also, which is better to live in, South Tampa or St Pete, as far as cost of living, property taxes, resale value, family friendly, safety/crime rate, etc. Any suggestions on good neighborhoods & those to avoid in both South Tampa and St. Petersburg areas would be helpful. Thanks!
I' ve worked with a number of people who work at MacDill Air Force base. They chose to live in St. Petersburg for many reasons and it is an easy drive to the base. If I can help you, just send me a note at RLTRPat@TampaBay.rr.com. I've lived here since 1970. I've been helping people find homes here since 1988. I show ALL listings - not just my own or those listed by RE/MAX and I work as a buyer's agent unless the property is listed by my own company. My direct number is 727-742-6634
Hi Allison,
I agree that Brandon is a good alternative. I worked with a couple whose husband worked at MacDill. After looking in many different areas we found a home that was perfect for them in Brandon. LIke Sheila said, the Crosstown makes the commute only about 20 minutes. And, since you wouldn't be in the city limits, your property tax bill would be lower for a comparably priced house. Brandon has a large mall, close to I-75 and
I-4, and has many, many homes to choose from. Also, there are a significant number of military personnel that live in the area, including the neighborhood my clients chose.

Hope this helps!

I don't know how much you are looking to spend on a home, but South Tampa is expensive and 4BR/3BA homes will run well over $300k. You may be able to find a home in the Port Tampa area, which is very close to the AFB but the schools aren't the best. If you live in St. Petersburg, the drive will be very hectic and traffic will be bad. I would recommend the Brandon/Valrico area where there alot of new homes priced at $140k and up. It would be an easy drive with light traffic on the Crosstown Expressway and should only take you 20 minutes. Brandon/Valrico has great schools and is a very family-oriented, safe place to live.
You can search for Brandon/Valrico homes on my website at http://www.buytampafl.com/search/main-property-search.shtml.
The zip codes for Brandon/Valrico are 33510, 33511, 33594.
The drive to St. Pete will exceed 30 minutes most days... find places close to MacDill at http://www.//tampa33611.com
Lots of questions. Do you have a moment.
1. There is an abundance of homes to look at and I am sure that the home you are looking for can be found with in the driving time frame you stated.
2. As which side of the bay is better? I am biased because I grew up in and still live in South Tampa.
St. Pete is a wonderful place and has lots to offer as well. That is a decision that you will have to make for yourself when you get a chance to visit.
3. Property taxes are a bit less in Pinellas County compared to South Tampa.
4. Resale: Location, Location, Location I would recommend hiring a licensed real estate agent to represent you. That person can help you with comparative market analysis on the property or area that you decide you like.
5. South Tampa and St. Pete are both family friendly. Great schools, public parks and great attractions like museums, aquariums and Zoo's.
6. Safety and Crime: check out this site. Put in a zip code or a specific address is you have already done some research on homes in the area. This site will let you know what crimes if any have been commited in the neighborhood. http://data.tbo.com/crime/
I think that if you use this information and do some of your own research you be happy in either location. One more thing to consider. Coming over the bridges from St. Pete can get long because of morning commuters coming over the bridges.
Let me know if I can help you in your search.
Dear Allison:
There are many ranch style homes in the area but they are usually older. The cost of land in the south tampa area pretty much mandates multi level houses. If you must have a one level house you might want to consider the carrollwood area--longer drive though 30 to 45 min.
If you are interested we have a 4/3 with two car garage 5 min from MacDill in the Port Tampa area--Multi level. Please e-mail me if you would like additional information.
sorry............. east of Lois
Definetely S. Tampa, are you kidding................ check 33611 on my site, avoid south of montgomery west of Lois ave, Ballast point is "A" rated school:

The best answer is that you should make an agency representation agreement with a local REALTOR member of the MLS. Most buyer's agents are satisfied to earn a commission and do not charge for their services, and your needs and interests will be best served by agency representation.
