Looking To Retire in Sevier County

Mary Wolfe
Home Buyer
Ringgold, GA

We are looking for a second home within a close distance to the Dollywood area. Want to avoid mountain driving and would like any
thoughts as to the area we are considering - Seymour, Tn. and
Sevierville. We have seen nice places in both but wonder about
appreciation, tourist traffic and any other future activities we should
take into consideration. When my husband retires, we plan to down
size to this home and live there permanently with the more favorable tax base. Donna

Hello,
I am Michele Bryan, an agent in the Sevier County area with East Tennessee Realty Group and to address your question about the place to be without all the traffic my answer as a life long resident of the area would be Seymour. It is simply gorgeous, surrounded by mountains, easy access to both Sevierville as well as Knoxville and out of the main stream of traffic. You have access to all back roads to get to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville. I would be happy to show you around the area and show you my secret back roads. When ready to start looking give me a call 865-898-5408.

In answer to your question regarding Sevier County, My answer is always...it is a wonderful place to visit, and even better place to live. Sometimes, I have to remind myself I now call this area home! I work the Sevierville,Seymour areas a great deal. My Brother is actually a builder here in the area. Several of my listings are homes like you have mentioned. Residential is my specialty.

Tourist traffic is the down side, but it is also what provides the upside of a favorable tax base. So, we here love to see the traffic, just learn to use the access roads such as Veterans Blvd., Boyds Creek etc. as our normal travel routes. As as with any rush hours, locals know when and which direction to take. The Boyd's Creek area offers a quiet, peaceful alternative with new restaurants and growth coming all the time. Minutes to both Knoxville and Sevierville , it is a favorite of many. Check out my listing on 1235 Rachel Street, Sevierville.
But if Pigeon Forge is a favorite, try my listing on 609 Henderson Chapel Road. It is a country charmer with one level living with all the extras already added. You can not believe how peaceful of an area it is and just minutes from everything!

Thank-you for your interest in Sevier County, I would be happy to answer any more questions you may have.

I went last Friday to dig some PawPaw trees up in Sevierville (thank you to the guy who gave them to me). I thought I would avoid traffic... I was wrong. Everybody visiting here must have a GPS and look for alternative ways. My little 40 minute drive turned into hours.

Suggestion. Look towards Cosby or Strawberry Plains area. My thoughts would be Straw Plains because it is close to Knoxville, Sevierville, 81, Jefferson City, etc. Cosby will get you close to Dollywood faster or Gatlinburg. I don't know much about Seymour so I can't comment on that area.

Great time to invest in this area. I recommend that when you find thevhome that suits your needs that you protect your interest and get a Home Inspection. If you need a good home inspector call 423-736-0333.

Jane is right. There are ways to avoid the traffic and mountainous driving. You may check out something close to the new Veterans Blvd. (a great way to get around all the traffic) as well as Seymour.

HI--I am a realtor living in Sevierville, and yes, there are ways to avoid traffic and mountain driving! Both Seymour and Sevierville are good choices--good growth areas and many homes that are built for permanent residents as opposed to rental properties (i.e they have closets!) Seymour is about 20 min from the airport, too. I'd be glad to send you some things to look at!
