You will find. since you are moving from NY, that everything will appear to be less expensive in Florida. The onerous taxes of the State of New York are truly overbearing. Still, inexpensive is a very subjective phrase.
In Florida, generally speaking, Atlantic is more expensive than Gulf Coast.
South Florida is more expensive than North Florida.
On the Atlantic you won't have fun until you spend enough money.
On the Gulf, you still have access to those things that add to your quality of life and connect you to what Florida was like before the high rises.
The best place for you can not be answered by anyone other than you. What we do know is if you are unhappy where you are, moving to Florida will not create happiness. If you are impatient and believe leaning on the horn causes traffic to move, you should consider staying in NY, moving to Toledo, or set your destination on Miami. Definitely stay away from the Gulf coast.
If you bring your happiness with you, have patience and tolerance for others and can accept shiny skin as a part of the environment, you will discover a growing passion for Florida and the desire to preserve this slice of paradise for those generations coming after you.
It isn't until you share a river with a family of manatees beneath towering Florida Oaks, are visited by a pod of dolphins, meet Jamali, marvel at the genius of Dali, pick oranges from your back yard in December, volunteer at the friends of the barrier islands, complete your first marathon, perform on the local stage, become a part of integrating educational opportunities with research centers through robotics and cyber camps and international competition, that you truly grasp the incredible opportunity that is presented to those who live here.
Perhaps you may find it beneficial to request from a local professional a '25 cent' tour of the areas in which you have interest..
My buyers have found this exercise to be well worth the time invested.
Best of success in finding your new Florida home,

- great schools: Weston, Parkland, Coral Springs and Boca Raton all have schools that have 9 and 10 ratings.
- low taxes: coming from New York anything will be lower. Our property taxes are reasonable but we also have no State Income Tax.
- low crime: that all depends on the area that you chose. Some areas are safer than others
- not expensive property: South Florida is a very popular place to live, as any beach community the price of housing is often not inexpensive
- low price of health insurance: Insurance is expensive wherever you live and usually based on the demograhics of the people that live in the area and any health issues you might have.
I am a full time top producing agent and if you would like to give me a call I will be happy to speak to you about the Ft. Lauderdale area.

Having been from Jacksonville to Key West and Naples to Pensacola and most points in between I know the state very well. There are some amazing places to call home but many differences in weather, lifestyle and landscape; stay below Vero Beach on the east coast and Sarasota on the west coast if you want the best winter weather. From your list of items important to you it does sound like Jupiter may be a very good fit. There were many reasons we ended up in Jupiter to raise our daughter. The best place I can point you for a brief introduction is this article about the Jupiter area;
As a resident of Jupiter, I work throughout Palm Beach and Martin Counties, and a great place to start is by defining your goals and comparing the lifestyles and housing costs of areas that you are interested in. There are so many different options available to us that reside in the state and I have selected Jupiter because of the quality of life that we enjoy. From my viewpoint, there is no finer place to reside that the Jupiter area; from the best schools, to a fantastic economy fueled by many factors and of course the wonderful facilities of Max Planck and Scripps Institute, to incredible unspoiled beaches, unbelievable dining and shopping options, numerous boating and golf opportunities, uncrowded streets, low crime and just the overall kindness of our residents. Recently we were out with a client who commented on just how nice everyone is; and why not as we are truly lucky to live in Paradise.
I work almost entirely as a buyers agent in Palm Beach and Martin Counties and certainly would be honored to be on the list of Realtors® you interview and happy to be of assistance in any way that I can. If you are in the area and would like a tour I would enjoy showing you why I am so fortunate to call Jupiter my hometown.
I hope this information is helpful but if you need anything additional please do not hesitate to give me a call.
