Is there a Realtor who really knows Commerce, Walled Lake, South Lyon, Farmington, & Farmington Hills?

I am looking for a Realtor who will help me.

We live in Mexico & are relocating to the USA, to Michigan. My husband will be working in Farmington Hills. What I need help finding is a great school for two kids (8 & 4 years) & a house hopefully within walking distance of each other.

I will be in Michigan the 1st week of June, but for only one week. We plan on leaving Mexico the second week of July. So as you see I have my hands very full! I have been looking on schoolmatters.com at test scores & other demographics, & greatschools.com for parent advice. I have also been on-line almost every day looking for
homes. I have pretty much focused on Commerce, Walled Lake, South Lyon, Farmington, & Farmington Hills. We are already pre-qualified. I want someone who will really focus on helping me find the two things that are most important to me, a great school & a house.

The agent we used was so wonderful, so professional that we invited her to our wedding as well as used her again 4 years later when we moved. Her name is Janet Guardiano and she's with C-21. She lives in Farmington Hills and has been selling there for 23 years.

Her number is 248-202-1399.

Welcome to Michigan!

Yes, try Nancy Browning at Coldwell Banker. She has been an agent in that area for over 20 years, and she is wonderful -- many of her clients (i am one of them) are repeat customers because she has a knack for finding people the right home and knows all about the various school districts in the area.

It may be to late since you are already here, but I am a local builder and realtor that focuses on South Lyon and Lyon Townsjip primarily. I am not sure of what price range you are looking at but I do have two new built completed homes in the South Lyon School district. They range from $360k - $400k. If these are not of interest to you i know most of the local builders and can get you a full inventory list of new homes available or soon to be complete.

I also have a new listing in Commerce (Huron Valley Schools) listed at $375,000. Only 5 years old and meticulously maintained. It backs to open property and offers a full walk out basement in a small 13 lot development.

I also live in South Lyon and am invlolved in the community and some of the sports programs. My wife also owns a small business in town (divine yoga company). We could give you great testimonial on this community. Everything from the Schools to the Academic and Sport programs have been very pleasing to us. We hope to stay here until we retire. I have 2 boys (11 / 13).

If any of this interest you please contact me at wickhamconstruction@msn.com or on my celll @ 248.207.6183
My name is Mike Wickham.
I am a realtor for Century 21 and I own the Building Company (Wickham Homes)

I hope to hear from you.

Hello, Kelly!

I imagine it is both an exciting and anxious time for all. It is important you have someone that makes you feel very comfortable, in addition to being knowledged, experienced, and professional. I would encourage you to at a minimum spend some time on the phone with those of us you are considering using prior to your arrival.

You can learn more about me, the process, and my approach to the business at http://www.DoorToDreams.com. I live in South Lyon and my office is on the North I-275 corridor amongst all the areas you are considering.

Hope to hear from you!

Kelly, The two websites you're using for schools are both good sites. Another, would be http://michigan.gov/mde which is the State of Michigan Department of Education website. While there are many good schools in Michigan, I cannot recommend any one school or district, and here's why. The Federal government has anti-steering laws for real estate professionals, so suggesting one could be considered steering.

I suggest reviewing the information you find online and visiting each schools website. Many will have the names and email addresses of staff or sometimes parent groups. After narrowing down your search, I suggest scheduling a meeting to tour the school. And please verify your kids will actually be assigned that school before purchasing.

In Michigan, real estate agents are only allowed to represent a home seller under a signed Buyers Agency Agreement. Samples of this and other forms are available here http://www.mi-living.com/index.cfm?pageid=1619

Because there have been many lenders in the US changing their lending requirements almost weekly, I suggest getting pre-approved prior to viewing homes.

What type of package is your husbands company offering for your move? This may include a specific real estate company that you must use. So before interviewing any (and you should interview more than one) please check to verify what will be offered and your choices.

These additional websites might help you narrow your search area. http://walkscore.com and http://www.traffic.com/Detroit-Traffic/Detroit-Traffic-roads.html M-5, I-275, and I-96 would be the major roads with frequent traffic slowdowns that might affect commuting to and from your home. Finally, http://Michigan.org is the official tourism website for the State of Michigan. It also contains some information about communities.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact me. Emails come to my phone, will answer as soon as possible.
