Yes it is! The Ocean air causes lots of problems and maintainence is a big issue with homes near the beaches.
It's just one of those things that has to be taken into consideration with a beach home.

As Laurie and Roberta have noted mold can be a problem when living near the ocean. One of the best methods of preventing mold is proper ventilation. This is especially true in bathrooms. A bathroom should have a window or a fan. Many people stop using a fan in the bath because they can be noisy. Newer models are extrememly quiet and very efficient. -

Mold can be an issue almost anywhere moisture is allowed to accumulate--and oceanfront living is no exception. Laurie makes some excellent suggestions. I would also add that carpeting tends to hold moisture more than hard surfaces. We often advise beach area clients to get rid of moisture-retaining wall to wall carpeting.

Yes, mold is always a consideration when living near the beach. The walls and floors of closets are likely places for mold to form as there is little or no air circulation. Walls and floors of closets should be checked on a regular basis. Several coats of Kilz and a good sealer will usually remedy the worst of the problem. The trick is to seal the walls.
