Hi Judy,
I spent my summers here since I was in 5th grade. Yes we do get the greenheads around the 4th of Jully and they last about a month and then the mosquites come in. I personally spend a great deal of time outdoors and I find the stories greatly exaggerated. The only time I notice them is at dusk when the breeze stops for a little bit.
Not true. I was there just last week and didn't see a fly. My office is in Barnegat and i was told Barnegat has the worst bug population in the world. In 5 years here i haven't seen that. I lived on a mash in Bayville and watched the new way they are controling the misquiteo population. That is happening all over NJ.
New Jersey does have green heads, flies are around. I had a bear in my back yard 3 years ago in Manchester Twp.
My daughter lives in brooklyn - no bears - not too many flies- lots of traffic.
I think it's a matter of trade offs.
Laura - thanks for the laugh - - "mosquitoes referred to as our state bird!" haha....I never heard that before, but I have heard a lot worst said!!
By the way Judy - we have mosquitoes up here in the north part of the state, too!
If you're thinking about buying a home in Little Egg Harbor, NJ you should tour the neighborhoods, talk to current home owners and check out community activities.
I've lived all over New Jersey, in urban and rural areas. I'd challenge you to find a place that doesn't have mosquitoes! They're referred to as the NJ state bird!
You have a variety of homes and communities in Little Egg. Top that with affordable home prices and reasonable taxes at least by New Jersey standards, and you've got great living in southern Ocean County.
