Home Buying in Fort Collins>Question Details

Otbe, Both Buyer and Seller in Fort Collins, CO

Is it possible to trade homes? Our house is in Stoneridge - needs alot of work. We'd like to trade for a smaller, intact home.

Our credit is awful - house needs drywall work, flooring, and painting but we can only do little things to it.

Possible, but difficult to align the objectives of buyer and seller.

We are seeking a home in Stoneridge and would consider one that needs this type of work. Please contact me. Thanks, Eric ericfmur@yahoo.com

Basically, no. If you own the property free-and-clear, and the other person does, then, it's "possible." But if one of you has a mortgage, that mortgage will need to either be retired or assumed before you can swap.

Allthe best,

Hi Otbe,

Why not simply price your home according to the condition as it relates to the market? The Stoneridge neighborhood is a great area and very appealing to buyers. Would you like to see what the data shows your home's value is in its condition?

"Home Swaps" are possible but not all that common for obvious reasons. It's all about communicating your needs to someone else with the same. From a practical standpoint, with the support of today's technology, this process should be made much easier as well as a more common way of dealing with the difficulties of today's real estate market.

Your plan to find a "swap" would certainly be helped with a huge internet campaigne.

Good luck,

Bill
