Is it OK to make a purchase offer on 3 homes simultaneously to see which one offers me the best deal?

I would never suggest one of my sellers to accept such a offer and I never said that either. I'm not sure why you (John Bennett) thought i meant it was ok for a "seller" to accept such a offer? I was just answering J Harper's question on rather he can make 3 simultaneous offers. He is a buyer, not a seller.

More then likely the offers he puts in would be rejected by each seller, but it never hurts to at least try as long as he puts in the contract what he is doing and that he doesn't have to buy the house even if his offer is accepted unless it is a better deal then one of the other offers.

It just so happened I was watching a show on one of those home channels where a couple put in offers on 3 short sale homes. They were afraid that all 3 offers would come in at the same time and that they would be stuck with 3 houses. I would of worked it different with them so that they wouldn't of gotten in trouble in case that would of actually of happened.

Mark, I don't understand contingent offers. In the past when my seller has gotten one, on my advise we have rejected same. I can't find a good reason to accept a conditional (If I don't buy house X I might buy your home or another). By accepting such you have to (our MLS rules) list subject pending, which effetely kills the marketing effort.

Mark, what am i Missing and why do you suggest to your sellers to accept such.

Offering three simultaneous legal documents to purchase property could be very risky business and result in you reluctantly owning all three.

Prior to doing anything like this it would be advisable to consult an attorney for their input.

Just put in contingent on the offers from the other properties. As long as each seller knows that you are putting in offers on two other properties and that you can walk away from the contract if one of the other properties comes in with a better offer. If you don't let the sellers know what your doing, you can run into big probelms.

If your turning in a written offer, you might want to talk to a real estate attorny first.

No it is not OK. What if all three accept your offers and you don't get counters? But it also depends on the circumstances.

Let's put it another way, you are trying to tie up sellers with an offer that you may not be willing to follow through on. They may be turning down other people who want to buy that property and will then find another house to buy while you are offering to buy 2 other houses too. Would you like it if you were the seller and some did that to you?

Sure you can, but you need to be ready to
. Buy three (Harper - Offer gets acceptance is called a contract - if you fail to close it can be Material BreacH)

This is serious, think about this, If you have home to sell, you accepted contract, Moved out you family to new home to learn the offer was just kidding around . . . .Yep you would want to kill someone.

I do not handle offers such as you suggest.
