According to the Family Watchdog website, West Dublin has more registered sex offenders than East Dublin. If you have representation, your realtor should provide you with some crime statistics in the area. Especially in today's economy, crime is something you have to figure into your purchasing decision.

Junior high and high school are all great. But you need to live on the hill area, not those close to shopping. Check which schools belong to before you make an offer.
Original prices are $1.2 million, now you can get it at $900K - $800K, good buy, 3,800 sq ft or bigger. The lot might be 8,000 sq ft, some 10,000sq ft, there are some with smaller lots.
Not far from freeway, expanding Fallon to I-580. But traffic on 580 is always slow. I prefer to exit earlier and take local. Once you exit freeway, the traffic is acceptable.
Anyway, it depends on your budget. Houses on the hill are big houses, they are more expensive than those close to Dublin Blvd.

We have focused our search on West and East Dublin, so I'm happy to share my view. Lower West Dublin (Hansen) feels more like a "traditional" suburban community with older, single story ranch style homes on larger lots, wide streets, plenty of mature trees, etc. As you go up the hill, the builds are newer and begin to feel a bit more like the planned communities in East Dublin. At the top of the hill (inspiration drive) is a private Christian school that is reportedly excellent. Assuming you are ok with that type of learning environment, they offer pre-kindergarten through high school. Demographically, it seemed like West Dublin had a much broader mix of residents, ranging from new families through retired folks. This area is very close to BART.
In East Dublin, we focused on the greater Dublin Ranch area (which is currently melting down, realty wise). This area is very much a master planned community with larger, new or newer two story homes, built very close together and on very small lots (a.k.a McMansions). Demographically, it seemed to have more working professionals and families with (young) kids. This area is not as close to BART as West Dublin, but the difference is probably 5 minutes drive.
I think Vickie's "whole package" comment is dead-on. The answer to your question is a personal choice, and trade off, based on a prioritization needs versus wants.

DO NOT rely on median and average-based statistics, these measures are meaningless for targeted selling/purchasing as they have no regard for any of the specifics you may be searching for and can be skewed by segments of market activity not matching your individual situation.
Instead, identify a Realtor to work, collect the specifics of your target criteria/area, and then use Comparative Market Analysis reports to monitor the best time to buy for you. Using your search criteria, have you Realtor also set up an automated "search agent" for you so you get notifications automatically via email as soon as they are made on the MLS.
Your question made me really think for a bit. Dublin is a city of vehicular traffic, rather than a pedestrian/mass transit city like San Francisco. Therefore, you're likely to get in your car to go to the market, coffee shop, etc. However, if you have young children I find sidewalk communities are preferred as you'll want to take the stroller out on a sidewalk as opposed to the side of the street. Proximity to parks is certainly a factor as well. The Emerald Glen park over in the Dublin Ranch is very popular!
Although my background is in the educational arena, I would say that a few points on an API score from one school to another isn't a huge gulf. It's important to be involved as a parent and strive to make educational achievement and expectation in the household and provide a supportive environment.
I think it's all going to come down to "the whole package" which includes lifestyle. Some families are happy in dense housing enviornments with mere patios for outdoor living, while others want the joy having space in their own back yard for the children to play.
