Hello, there is a great discussion on investing in Bay Area versus other recovering nearby cities like Salinas. Here is the HTML for this forum at Redfin. Is Bay Area market too bloated to appreciate further ? Can places like Salinas double your investment in 2 years ?

it would be great if we had a crystal ball to tell us. We can look at the facts and numbers historically speaking. Even with the housing crises that occurred several years ago, the history of California prices has been on an increasing pattern and it would be a good guess to say that they will continue in this direction with normal ups and downs.
