Interior Maintenance Budgeting for a Condo Owner

Asked by Hugh Masterson, Broomfield, CO Tue Oct 29, 2013

Hello,

Can someone give me an idea of a budgeting rule of thumb for maintaining a Condo. Homeowners association or Condo fees would cover the exterior I presume. What about interior, though. Electrical, plumbing walls, decor etc. I don't really know much about how much these association fees cover. I have read of a $1 per square foot per year rule to budget in maintaining an seperate home. Obviously a Condo or Town\home would be far less than this. Any help on these numbers would be appreciated

Hi Hugh and each HOA covers various items. Start with the specific HOA coverage as if they cover roof and all exterior your cost will be very low for your inside works. Not much when you only are responsible for the inside "air" coverage.

Best wishes.

We have a good deal on electrical maintenance in McHenry IL which really helps lower the total cost. I would look around for as many deals as possible!
