Interested in learning more about homes in Western Iowa.

Asked this question earlier in the week and didn't get a response, but I realized the town I asked about was very small. I have a job interview for a company in Elk Horn, IA this week. We currently live in Ohio and was wondering if someone could tell me a little more about the area and some good locations for purchasing a home in the area. Would be looking for a 4 bedroom, prefer a newer home (built in the last 10 years or newer), would like to be able to have at least a half acre. We're currently in the process of getting ready to sell our house regardless what happens with this position, so we would be looking to stay around $250k or less. Is this possible in that area? Good schools would be a must too. Also would be interested in new construction if it is available in the area. I don't mind making a bit of a drive (30-45) to be in a nice area.

Thanks
Jason

Jason, Has anyone ever mentioned you look a lot like Drew Carey. Since you asked this in June we've discovered we were a bit hasty on the "it's a great time to buy" thing. It's actually a great time to buy right now, and we are even nearer the bottom or more at the bottom than in June.

Hope this clears things up, Dunes

Dear Jason,

GREAT questions! Elk Horn, Iowa is a wonderful midwestern small town area. My brother-in-law worked in Elk Horn for several months and said the people were wonderful. He loved the community and had nothing but good things to say. I actually sell houses farther to the east (closer to the Des Moines metro area), but I would be more than happy to help you find some homes through an agent in the area. Elk Horn has a strong Danish culture with many fascinating tourist attractions.

Let me know if you want me to help you find something. You can definitely find something with the parameters you mention (or less)!

Best wishes,

Jason, I know of a property in the area that meets most of your requirments. My parents are retiring and selling their home on about 3 acres 20 minutes from Elk Horn. It is a older farm house, but very large, under your budget, and the land and space were wonderful to grow up in. Let me know if you would like more information.
