Jamieson Ram…, Home Buyer in Portland, ME

In the market for building new

Asked by Jamieson Ramsay, Portland, ME Fri Feb 8, 2013

Looking for guidance with building a new home. I've been in the market looking for property, but also want to explore the option of purchasing land and building new.

Ideally, the new home would have the following:

-surrounded by trees
-well off the road
-green / energy efficient
-humbly sized (1500 sq ft max)
-in the greater Portland area

I congratulate your choices for humble and green. You can find reasonable priced wooded lots in many of Portland's surrounding communities. Finding a quality green builder can be a challenge , (everyone says they are),but here are several in the greater Portland area. Any other criteria that you can add to your search in terms of what you seek in a community will help a realtor find the right lot for you.

Jamieson, Portland "area" could be from Saco to Yarmouth and from Portland to Gorham. The closer you get to Portland the more dear the prices become. Gorham and Westbrook (both adjacent to Portland) have lots available. "Surrounded by trees" indicates a more rural area such as Buxton or further west to Windham.

All-in price and size of lot are important to know. Put our 27 years of experiece to work for you and give us a call.

We wish you success in your quest.

You can work with their designs and modify to your liking or even bring your own plans and create your dream home. It's always wise to partner with folks who can guide you well as there are a number of steps along the way. Our team has worked with many first time home buyers to build brand new homes as well as find newly constructed homes that are nearly compete yet waiting a buyers final touches to call their own.

Depending on your situation it could be to your benefit to purchase land and build or have a builder and real estate agent work on your behalf to find the right land to build a home for you.

Jamieson,

That is a great plan. I have a background in construction and remodeling and would be happy to sit down and chat more about your plans and ideas.

Finding the right builder is key when talking about green/energy efficient homes. You want to make sure they have a similar commitment to "green" as you.

Depending on your budget and what type of financing you get there are a lot of options.

Give me a call or email anytime.
