The Midtown area of Detroit is probably the safest. It has been booming for the last two years. You have two great neigborhoods one being Woodbridge and the other Corktown and of course Midtown. I have lived in bothe Corktown and Woodbridge, i would be happy to work with you.

Safe and clean are subjective. Here's are more objective measurements:

1. What are the neighborhood sales in the past 6 months?

2. What are the homes renting for in the immediate vicinity ?

3. How many other vacant or burned properties are on the same block?

4. What is the cost to insure the property?

Great neighborhoods or poor neighborhoods all have measurable characteristics.

You cannot get a true sense of that over the Internet ! You need to work with professionals before you spend one dime. We are talking about several thousand dollars and an INVESTMENT, which requires research, planning and a good strategy.

Work with someone who specifically works with investors and has enough resources to help you navigate safely in our market.

Take a look at a blog we have specifically for investors:

As a Realtor®, I'm not allowed to give my opinions on those subjects. I would suggest calling the local authorities and asking them about crime stats.
