If a home has a SOLD sign on it (just posted yesterday) does this mean that the house is really sold? Can I go in and make an offer still?

I would contact the listing agent to confirm the status. The house may just be "under contract" and not actually sold. If that is the case and you are interested in the home as the agent if the seller will consider a back up contract. then if the first sale falls through you would be in position to be the primary contract.

It wouldn't hurt to call the agent (or office) holding the listing. A lot of times agents put up the sold sign before it's actually "sold".
