Home Buying in 94015>Question Details

Reyna, Home Buyer in Tracy, CA

I was in the process of buying a home but problems came up and we had to cancel our contract. The appraisal was done and they are charging me for it.

Asked by Reyna, Tracy, CA Fri Nov 2, 2012

The home was sold right after we canceled so am i responsible for paying the appraisal?

Yes. The appraisal has your name and the lender's name on it.
The new buyer will have his name his lender on it.
The new buyer and new lender will not be able to use your appraisal as appraisers must be selected randomly.

Yes you are still liable for the payment.. Ordering an appraisal on a home is always COD as they are independent and has nothing to do with the sellers or the buyers. They perform their job and has to be paid for that.

Hi Reyna,
The appraisal was requested by the buyer’s lender. Your lender has hired the appraiser with your agreement that you will pay for the appraisal report .

Yep, Don is right - you ordered the work, you are responsible for the payment even though you don't need it anymore.

Unless the lender said they would pay for it, yes you are responsible.

Yes. You are responsible.

You ordered the work, the appraisal. The work was done. Your decision whether to buy--and your use or non-use of the appraisal--are immaterial.
