I want the charm of Lookout Mtn but not the actual mountain - where to next? Missionary Ridge?

I am moving to Chattanooga this summer with my husband and three young sons. I fell in love with Lookout Mtn's charming homes and idyllic childhood nostalgic feel, but am wary of living on a mountain, being from Flat Florida. Where can I find charm and that great neighborhood-feeling in Chattanooga without also feeling like I am going to veer off a ledge to my death? (Pardon the drama.) Is Missionary Ridge the same? Other suggestions?
Thanks!!!

To answer Kevin's question: Lots are available on Lookout in this price range with some view, but most view lots will run you a lot more. The Georgia side of Lookout Mt. would be your best bet in this price range. I have built homes in one gated community on Lookout where the lots have just been reduced to about $10K/acre due to the Developer wanting to finish up and retire. The average lot size is 3-5 acres. There are community lots with wonderful brow views, fishing lakes, streams and a 600 acre nature preserve that will assure the beauty of this naturally designed development. This is just one example of what this area has to offer and as you can check out on my profile or web site, I specialize in second homes & retirement homes & lots. Happy to help. Give me a call.

Additional question - where might you purchase a lot (~$50,000) on or around lookout mountain? ((looking for a retreat with a view, to build later for hiking, mountain biking, etc))

Want to refer a client to the right local agent...

Well having come from Flat Florida my self (grew up in Central FL) and moved to Lookout Mountain, I got to say while there are many nice areas in this area, there's nothing quite like Lookout Mountain. You have exceptional schools, a variety of churches and a community atmosphere that is second to none. There are plenty of homes available on both the TN as well as the GA side of Lookout Mountain that are not near the edge or bluff in price ranges from $69,000 to $2,950,000. Depending on where you live on the mountain, there are also 5 or 6 ways to drive on and off the mountain that may provide less drama for you. You also get use to the ledge after a while. Having said that and like I said earlier, there are other options in the area. Have you considered North Chattanooga? Let me know if I can be of any help with this. As a fellow Floridian, I can give you the rundown of the area compared to what you have been use to. I am working with a lot of folks from Hillsborough County, FL right now. In fact, if have every thought of building, there is a new log home community up here with over 70 property owners from Tampa area. Take a look at this link showing a get-together we did in Tampa with some of these folks. The photo shows all the folks that already bought their lot and are either building or getting ready to build up here and are from Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota area. Here is the link: http://modernrusticliving.com/tampa-log-home-show/. Or you can search for properties in this area by selecting the link below.

Give us a call if we can be of any further service,

This place isn't far from Chattanooga and it's on a mountain but not on a veering ledge like you describe I don't think...

If you don't want to be on a mountain or a ridge then St. Elmo, North Chattanooga, East Ridge, Belvoir, Red Bank, Riverview are all part of the Chattanooga Metro area. Homes built in the early 1900's prices will range depending on level of finish and close proximity to downtown from $100,000 to well over 1 million.

Congratulations on your upcoming move. Chattanooga is a wonderful place to raise a family. You may consider looking in St. Elmo it is located at the foot of Lookout Mountain in the historic district it is rich in history and very convenient to downtown. You may also consider crossing the TN line into GA. You will find the beautiful areas of Flintstone and/or Trenton, GA both with amazing views of Lookout. Lastly being a Lookout Mountain native, I assure you the drive gets less scary. Though I admit, the fog can be intimidating. I would be happy to email you some homes that meet your needs. You can reach me by phone at 423-322-SOLD (7653) or email Barbara@BarbaraBlevins.com

Missionary Ridge has a winding road that may give you the same feeling. Ther e are some great neighborhoods in Chattanooga with a charming feel. St. Elmo, at the foot of Lookout is one. Signal Mountain is another, but then again there is that mountain thing. The East Brainerd area has some great places as well as Ooltewah.

Chattanooga is a great place to live. I'm sure you'll find the perfect place. Please let us know if we can help.
