I both live and work in Westfield -- have had 3 kids go thru the schools. All students go to the same high school; all students now go to the same 'early childhood center' for Kindergarten. In any given year, the test scores from one school are marginally higher than another -- but not in any significant way.
Regarding commuting to NYC -- we have both the Raritan Valley Train Line, as well as bus service to Port Authority Bus Terminal. Some homes are within a short enough distance that commuters walk or even bike to the train station. There is indeed a wait list for a parking permit; when I checked last month, they told me it could be 2 years for a prime space right at the South Avenue lot -- potentially shorter for other lots a block or so away.
