The previous answers are all good. Abstract companies can research a property for you and tell you who the lein holder of record is. Usually, that is just what you need. However, it is common these days for banks to sell notes (loans) and sometimes notes are sold several times during a person's ownership of the property. It is more common now than ever to find that the lein holder of record no longer actually holds the lein! The new lein holder may or may not have recorded the mortgage in the county where the property is located. It may take some indepth detective work to find the actual lein holder of the property!
I would contact a title company, or have your realtor do so. It is the best place to start.

You will need to search county clerk records. I can recommend an expert Realtor to help you buy this property.

Send me an e-mail if you like me to recommend someone.

Hi. I'm a Realtor in Northwest Arkansas, but I have family not far from Baxter County.

You should contact a local abstract company. You can call Alley Abstract at (870) 425-2264. I have heard that they are very good.
Give them the legal description and all the info you have and they will be able to run it and find it.
Baxter county does not have their records online yet, so you will have to go in to find & copy them.

You can call the county clerk and ask for more info: (870) 425-3475
For other contacts at the County: http://www.baxtercounty.org/contactus.html

Good luck.

Also, don't forget to type in your last name in the "Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt" to find out if you or your ancestors own any UNCLAIMED property in Arkansas! http://www.arkansas.gov/auditor/unclprop

Some counties place these records online. Check online for deed registration for your county. If it is not online, then you will need to go to the office. Liens are public information.
