If you are thinking of purchasing a home. I think you should be looking in South San Francisco or parts of San Mateo. Your ideal home would be a property zoned R3 or two houses on one lot type of property. I have helped a buyer purchase such property last year and the properties had the same APN but different street addresses (This is common in South San Francisco) so you can live in one unit and rent the other one. Let me know if you would like some help as I'm always available to help buyers

Have you found anything yet?
Daly City, South San Francisco and parts of San Mateo have homes with an inlaw. Some may be permitted and other are not. Many in those areas have separate entrance. Those are the areas I would concentrate on either if you are renting or buying.
I do not do rentals but if you are interested in buying I would be honored to help you. Please feel free to call me toll free at 877- Lee-Sells
I have a listing coming up in San Bruno. It has one room downstairs and a bath that is plumbed but needs the appliances.
Best of luck,
