Hi Tina--You were already given the number for the Town of Ossining tax office, (914) 762-8790, and they are nice enough that they give you the taxes for a property over the phone if you give them the address. You can also ask for the tax rate and that way if you see a listing online and have the tax assessment, you can apply the tax rate and calculate the taxes for any property for yourself in the future. Note that some homes in the Town of Ossining are also in the Village of Briarcliff Manor, and you will need to get those additional Village taxes for that property--you can do this online at http://www.briarcliffmanor.org and click on Departments and then Taxes and look up Village taxes by owner name or address. Further, some homes in Ossining P.O> are actually in the Town of New Castle of Yorktown, and those are the towns you will need to contact for tax info. PLUS, you should always ask if the tax numbers you receive include a discount for STAR (in NY that is a State Tax Assessment Relief discount), and whether there is also any other exemptions that may or may not pass on to you as anew homeowner (such as a senior STAR exemption or a Veteran's exemption).
In short (or long), there are lots of nuances to the taxes on a property, and a buyer's agent can help you navigate the waters...
I am an associate broker with Houlihan Lawrence Real Estate in Briarcliff Manor (in the town of Ossining) and would be happy to help you.
