I'm looking to buy a house in east meadow but the town assesment survey loooks like by next year home prices will be dropping by 13 to 18 percent

Not sure what survey you are referring to--If looking at tax assessment data--keep in mind that assessments have no bearing on market value--you need to review recently sold similar properties in the immediate area in order to establish a fair offer/price. Keep in mind that none of us for sure where the market will head tomorrow or in the days to come, what we all know is today--therefore, buy when you need to buy and are ready to buy.

Although no one has a crystal ball regarding house prices, the so-called "experts" were predicting another 10% or so drop in prices nationally. However, recent reports indicate that some areas in the country have gone up. Prices this year in our area have dropped only about 1% since last year at this time. If you have long term plans to stay in E. Meadow or wherever you decide to move, it's a great time to buy. Interest rates are incredibly low and there are many bargains out there.
