Home Buying in North Port>Question Details

Fred Gaspari…, Home Buyer in Coral Springs, FL

I'm interested in buying a home in North Port, but I don't know the area. Can someone tell me about it, & where the nicest areas to live are?

Asked by Fred Gasparini, Coral Springs, FL Fri Dec 27, 2013

I'd be interested in a single family home in the 150-175K range. I'm a very "active" over-55 type. I know that Sarasota rocks!

North Port is nice, I live here and I am very happy with the area. Venice is very nice as well, with lots of shopping, golf, and local area events and festivals. I am a local home inspector and if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at tropicarehomes@gmail.com

This is strictly my opinion, but if you are active and enjoy the beach and downtown activities, North Port is not necessarily for you. Your budget allows you a nice range of choices in either Venice or Sarasota.

I have a page on my website devoted to listings for 55+ communities with up to date listings from the MLS:

I'd be happy to help you find the right area and property for your needs.

Thanks, David. I'm glad I put the 55 thing out there, so I can ponder the full range of my choices.

Hi Fred,
I cover the North Port area and would be happy to help you. The only single family home 55+ community in North Port is Cypress Falls at the Woodlands. There are only two active listings in that community and they are in the $230k range. http://www.centex.com/communities/fl/north-port/cypress-fall…

A community not too far from North Port is Kings Gate. It is a 55+ community in your price range and has a lot of activities. http://www.kingsgatehomes.com/

Here is a link on my web page to some of the other communities in North Port - http://www.tammyhayes.remaxagent.com/north-port-communities.aspx

North Port is located in southern Sarasota County closer to Port Charlotte and Venice. It is about 15-20 minutes to the beach, 10 minutes to the Port Charlotte mall, and there are a lot of local stores in North Port such as grocery, strip malls, WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. There is also a library and medical facilities as well as parks and schools. The average age in North Port is in the 40's. Homes in North Port are more affordable than Venice or the city of Sarasota and also you will find newer homes. The commute time to Sarasota and Ft Myers is about 45 minutes. So it is ideally located to both larger cities for additional amenities such as museums and more cultural activities.

Fred, I've lived in North Port for 6 years now and own a business. We chose to rent nearby in a nice gated community called Talon Bay. Horton homes moved into the community and started building it out. It's a nice community with tennis courts, clubhouse pool, kayak launching area, etc. There are resale homes here selling for $159k to 250k and new homes in the same range. It's convenient to everything. If you don't like the gated community lifestyle there are plenty of homes on land in the area that are really affordable. North Port is growing by leaps and bounds. The other areas like Venice are more expensive with older homes and higher taxes, Port Charlotte is just as affordable but with older homes and Punta Gorda is a quaint little community that I really like but it has more expensive properties. North Port used to be where all the construction workers lived until 2008-2009 when the economy forced them to go into Foreclosure and move elsewhere to find jobs.

Hello Fred,

I have live here since 1988, when North Port had nothing. Over the years it has developed in the biggest city in Sarasota County. Nice homes through out the area to purchase. New stores, near Ft. Myers, Sarasota and near the beaches. Far enough away that most homes don't need flood insuance, but close enough to drive to in a short amount of time.

If you haven't found an agent yet, I would like to help you find a home.
