I'm mainly interested in Warren, Basking Ridge, Watchung, and Long Hill (Gillette, Stirling, Millington). What are the pro and cons of those towns? It seems that Watchung and Warren don't have train stations... how do people commute to the city?

Hi K, you'll find great school info at my website, just click on the School Info tab - the Star Ledger report card allows you to compare and contrast schools along a variety of criteria. Warren, Watchung, Green Brook and Long Hill Township all feed into Watchung Hills Regional High School. Each of these communities have their own elemenary schools and middle schools. All are well regarded. Basking Ridge has its own high school - "Ridge" - top notch, as is Watchung Hills. In terms of sustainability of the quality of the school system, I think you will be in good shape - people are drawn to this area for the very reasons you are, and high quality schools is high on the list of priorities which keeps the pressure high to maintain the quality of the schools over time.

You can't go wrong in the areas you are targeting.

I worked with a family that lived on Lillian Terrace in Piscataway and they were looking in the same communities - for them, they had friends in The Hills section of Basking Ridge and so our search focused there. Their priorities were similar to yours - schools, commuting ease, and general community appeal. I worked with them on their seach and also listed their home in Piscataway fo sale. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for assistance.

School district is relatively important. While there are no little ones yet, I'm hoping on a few later on. Also, I know that the performance and quality of schools are important to home prices.

I know the schools in the area that I selected are decent in ranking but how's their sustainability? Where would I find information like that?

Hi Kenny, you are considering communities right in my area of expertise - Basking Ridge and Long Hill have train stations and bus service. You are correct that Warren and Watchung do not, but we have many commuters living in both communities. In fact, I commuted from Warren into the city for 12+ years and my husband continues to do so daily. The proximity to 78 and the train stations in neighboring Basking Ridge and Long Hill make Warren and Watchung work well from a commuting standpoint. Also our proximity to Summit, a straight 20 minute shot on 78, where you can get direct service to the city is a much used option as well.

You'll find great info/links for these communities at my website. I regularly track all of them in the Local Market Commentary section. Please allow me to assist you - I've lived in the area for 16 years and know the area and inventory very well.
