I'm active duty military looking to buy in my home state. Will there be penalties like investment properties since I'm overseas?

There should not be any penalties so long you are going to occupy as primary residence. My company certainly would not have an issue with your situation.

To my knowkedge there should not be any penalties. If you are a U.S citizen you have proof of funds you should be good.
