River, MD area of South County, Anne Arundel. Is there a neighborhood that's more desirable than the others? What neighborhood offers opportunity for a likely re-sale? Being new to the area, what things should I make sure to look for (well inspections, special tax areas, for example)?
Hi Aimee!
My name is Jenn Klarman, and I'm a REALTOR with Long & Foster Real Estate. I live in South County and love it! ;)
I noticed your question posted on Trulia Voices (Nov. 2007) and read through the responses you received; I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what you decided to do. Did you purchase in South County?
If so, I'd like to extend a warm "Welcome!"
All the best!
Jenn

Hi Aimee, with house prices in edgewater and surrounding areas falling as fast as they have been within the next year or two should be a good time to buy .We haven't seen the bottom of this market yet Iwould hold off until it balances .do some reading about the calif. market during the 80's . from what locals in the area are telling me we are in a very similar market
Congratulations on choosing the wonderful State of Maryland and the wonderful Anne Arundel County to buy your first home! I have lived in Anne Arundel County for 10 years and in Maryland for 17 years and I cannot imagine living anywhere else. We have many lovely (non-Bay) areas close to water that I am sure you will like. I would recommend a buyer agent consultation to discuss your goals and develop a plan to achieve them. Since I cannot legally talk about neighborhoods (due to Fair Housing laws) I have several clients whom you can talk to about neighborhoods and the various activities you may be interested in -- some own boats and live in water privileged communities and even take their boat to eat out to restaurants! A good buyer agent can help you figure out all the things you will need to look for while purchasing a home. You will find many helpful articles and home search capability on my web-site.
I do not work in the area of your home search, but as Cindy said below, REALTORS cannot make recommendations about a particular neighborhood because of Fair Housing laws. You may want to search for neighborhood information on a site like Yahoo Neighborhoods. You can get a lot of information there. You can also ride through the neighborhoods you are considering at different times of the day to get a feel for it. The your best bet would be to hire an Accredited Buyer's Representative. Go to http://www.rebac.net and Click on "Find a Buyer's Rep" at the top of the top. Good Luck in your home search.
Hi Aimee:
Congratulations to buying your first home!
Due to Fair Housing Laws, Realtors cannot comment on specific neighborhoods being more desirable than others.
A Realtor can show you homes in the price range you are looking in. They can show you what homes are selling for and what has sold in those neighborhoods.
They will provide information about the home buying process, including home inspection, well inspections, home warranties, taxes, settlement costs and everything else you need to know about buying your first home!
Have you met with a buyer agent yet?
Didn’t find what you were looking for? Ask a question!
