I know that there has been talk of developing Camden, NJ. I saw a property that I like on tuckahoe road and
the only thing stopping me from making an offer is the fact that it is in Camden. How much stride has been made in the revitalization process, and most importantly IS IT SAFE for a single Female.

I've spent my first few years in Camden. When I was in the 5th grade my family moved to Pennsauken. Safe is a very relative word. While steering is illegal as a realtor we can have an honest discussion about value in smartly investing your money. The area you are speaking of is called Fairview. I've sold a few homes there. If you want some honest answers about homes values and the area. I can assist you. I reference some of my current home buyers and sellers in the area and they can give you their opinon.

Drive around during the day. Go back and drive around the same streets at dusk. Repeat at 11pm. That will tell you a lot.

Hi Vp,
I know is it challenging for a buyer to not get an answer to a question. It's difficult for Realtors to answer "Is it safe for a single female?" What one single female may feel comfortable with, another may not. Law prohibits real estate agents from steering, and labeling an area as "unsafe" may be construed as steering. For this reason, Realtors will point you to independent sources of data. I definitley suggest that you pick up the phone can call the police station that patrols the area of the property. Talk w/ them and ask them where police blotter reports are printed. Read those. Ask the police dept questions. Use online sources for data....but keep in mind if you google for crime stats and Camden, the reports will average data. It may or may reflect the area of your interest. The area of your interest could reflect statistics that are upwards or downwards. Best of luck! Deborah Madey - Broker Peninsula Realty Group - New Jersey Mon Mar 24 2008, 09:46
