I think both companies build good products. But all homes have faults. Get a good inspection and make sure to have a qualifed Realtor (they will be paid by the builder) help you with the process. In either case the Realtor can help make sure the builder does everything possible to have the home in its best possible condition.

I mostly agree with the below comments. But I think overall meritage is a better product than kimball hill. However build quality begins and ends with the guy or gal in charge of the subs. Ask to meet them. Better yet, get an agent who will take the initiative to do so on your behalf. Also that realtor should scope the sales history of each neighborhood too, as that sales prformance will likely be the real driver of the deal you make and the growth (or not) of your investment. Peace.

Hi Enlighten,

I think they are both great builders - do not quote me on this but I think Kimball Hill just filed for bankruptcy, you might want to ask the builder about that rumor and if so, how it could affect your pourchase/warranties.

If you are not currently represented by a realtor, it might be a good idea to sign a representation agreemtent before purchaseing a home. I would love to help you. Feel free to contact me at 281-660-9988

I personally like Kimball Hill a bit better, but every community is different. Every builder and sales rep is different and their work loads can be different. Talk to neighbors in the community about their experiences. You'll see them out after work and on weekends. They're probably the best source of information as to their experiences in that particular community and the staff of the builder working there. As Sandra said always use a realtor when purchasing a new home. Every day on this website we see questions from buyers about the bad things that happen with different builders. It's not to say the same things can't happen when you have a realtor, but I think they're easier to work through when you have a realtor. We just have more experience, contacts and more resources to call upon when things go wrong. You can see a list of some of the things that can go wrong on my website under the new home link. If you need a referral to a good Katy realtor please feel free to contact me.

Hopefully you have a buyer representative working for you even though you are looking at new construction. The sales person for the builders are not licensed Realtors and they represent the builder only, If you are not being represented by an agent, please feel free to contact me at 281-630-3281.
