I have heard that there are 'good' and 'bad' areas in Yonkers, NY. I'm thinking about Yonkers as a home buyer

or even as a renter and would like to know which areas are good or bad.

Rey and Paul have it exactly right below. "Bad" and "good" are relative terms, almost indefinable, but sometimes people use them as proxies for asking questions about demographic makeup, questions that Realtors should not and cannot answer. Rey's advice is the right advice -- drive around the neighborhood, see what you think, and then drive around other neighborhoods that are in the same price range and see what you think about them. Don't ever trust someone else's judgment about whether a neighborhood is right for you, whether they are a Realtor or not.

There is no such thing as a good or bad area. Here are the best three ways to know if an area is for you.

1. Get in your car and drive around the neighborhood at 800AM and again at 330PM. You will see how many people are going to work, how many children are going to schools, how many crossing guards there are, and what type of community it is.

2. Go to the school and ask for a tour. Ask the teachers about the neighborhood. They know more than anyone because they know all the families.

3. Ask people who live there, why they live there. Their answers will tell you whether they are there because they WANT to be, or becuase they HAVE to be. Big difference.

What is good for you may not be good for someone else. If you would like a community report for a specific area, I can send it to you. Best wishes.

Realtors are not allowed to comment on neighborhoods, by law. Besides, Good and Bad are relative to whom ever you ask. If you are refering to crime, you should go to a website that tells you those statistics.
Good Luck and call me if needed, as I handle Yonkers very well, and know all the properties in the area.
