I have a question about deaths in a residence and disclosure laws or statutes?

Is there a law or statute in Wisconsin about disclosure if there was a death by other than natural causes in a home? Does the seller or real estate agent have to tell the potential buyer? Is there a law or anything about this subject??

I totally agree with Nancy. It is always better to error on the side of caution and disclose.

It is not required to disclose in Wisconsin but the smart thing to do is disclose. People tend to find about these things from neighbors and other sources and then are upset it was not disclosed. I always disclose unless Seller wants this kept confidential.

In California we have to report if a death occurred within 3 years. However, some cultures/buyers are very particular and I would probably disclose it if it happened and I was aware of it. I know of several properties that have had suicides and even a murder in one and as an agent, if I am aware, I disclose. The liability/risk of not mentioning it is too significant.
